H-F school board schedules two meetings for Thursday

Two school board meetings are set for Thursday, Sept. 6, at Homewood-Flossmoor High School.

The Finance Committee will meet at 5 p.m. in the conference room in South Building.  Discussion will focus on how to handle Property Tax Appeal Board filings, residency investigations and the fine arts expansion project.

Steve Anderson, District 233 school board president, has taken over the position of chair of the Finance Committee. He removed himself from the committee in late May and appointed school board member Beth Larocca to fill his seat. He named Finance Committee member Tim Wenckus to chair the committee, removing long-time chair Jody Scariano as chair.

Wenckus chaired one Finance Committee meeting before resigning his position on the District 233 board Aug. 24.

Anderson has also called a special meeting for 6:30 p.m. to discuss its long-range strategic planning process and focus areas. The meeting will be in the H-F library in the South Building.

The board hired Robert Mandonia of RJM Consulting Services Inc. to help the board develop a five-year strategic plan. He has recommended the board set focus groups made up of staff, faculty, students and community members. The groups will offer opinions and ideas on what H-F will need over the next five years.

Mandonia said input from the group sessions would be used by school board members to develop the long-range plan.
