D233 board invites community comments for its 5-year strategic plan

Homewood-Flossmoor High School is asking the community to join with District 233 board members as they begin work on a new strategic plan for H-F.

There are three opportunities open to community members, and each require varied amounts of commitment.

The easiest way to offer input is through an online survey. Replies are being accepted now through Oct. 10. A special website for strategic plan information is at hfhighschool.org/district-info/strategic-planning and the survey can be accessed there.

An informative community meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 2, in Room 101 in the North Building Fieldhouse. Parents and guardians are invited to a 6 p.m. session, and H-F will host a community session at 7 p.m.

H-F is also looking for 75 interested community members willing to help the school board discuss important topics, offer input and react to ideas. Interested persons must be willing to commit seven hours for evening and morning planning sessions Nov. 9 and 10 and a yearly follow-up session for the next four years. Applications will be accepted through Oct. 12 at the strategic plan website.

Consultant Robert Mandonia is helpint board members consider important topics that will guide the strategic planning discussion, such as fostering communications, recognizing student potential and student achievement, supporting staff development, supporting the array of extracurricular activities at H-F, technology needs and how technology impacts the classroom and assessing school finances as they relate to supporting H-F values.

In addition to these scheduled public meetings, students, school staff, faculty and administrators will have sessions where they can offer their suggestions.

Board President Steve Anderson said he hopes to have the plan ready by the end of the year. It will be a long-range document meant to serve the school for the next five years.
