IJP Block Party provides Oktoberfest fun for families

The annual Infant Jesus of Prague Block Party returns Saturday, Oct. 6. The family fun at 1131 Douglas Ave. in Flossmoor will last from 5 to 9 p.m.

Food trucks will be on hand, including Cheesies, Warm Belly Bakery, American Glory, Los Portales and Joey’s Red Hots. Beer vendors will include 350 Brewery, Blue Island Beer Company and Flossmoor Station.

The event will have live music by Almost Einstein. The band is a frequent church festival music act.

“We are excited to have them for our main stage entertainment,” IJP Block Party spokesman Carlo Gozzi said.

Kids will enjoy the popular Home Depot work shop, face painters, an obstacle course and, new this year, football and basketball toss. As the games close down at dusk, a movie, “The Incredibles 2,” will be shown on an inflatable big screen.

“This year’s theme is Oktoberfest and we will be handing out commemorative beer steins to the first 300 adults who purchase 21 and over wrist bands,” Gozzi said.

The event also includes a split the pot raffle to raise money for the the parish. Last year’s winner took home $13,000, according to Gozzi. Tickets are on sale at the parish office and will be sold the evening of the block party.

“This is an important fundraiser for IJP and our whole community is welcome,” Gozzi said. “Join us for a night of Oktoberfest fun!
