Administrators at Parker Junior High School in Flossmoor initiated a yellow lockdown early in the morning Wednesday, April 24, after being informed of a threat against the school posted to social media.

No incidents of violence have been reported. The lockdown remains in effect and will until the end of the day, according to District 161 spokesperson Amy Kent.

According to a letter the school sent to parents, around 8 a.m. the school administration was made aware of a message sent on the social media platform Instagram, threatening gun violence at Parker.

Upon this notification, administrators contacted the Flossmoor Police Department and placed the school campus on yellow lockdown.

A step below red lockdown, yellow lockdown involves locking all interior and exterior building doors and restricting unnecessary movement within the school. Classroom instruction continues during a yellow lockdown.

Flossmoor police could not immediately make any officers available for additional information. They are investigating the validity of the threat and the person or people responsible.

In the letter from District 161, Superintendent Dana Smith thanked the unnamed parent and student who reported the threat.
