Minga also recently retired from his position as captain with the Flossmoor Fire Department.

Longtime Flossmoor Village Trustee Philip Minga is expected to step down from the village board in the coming months.
Minga’s residence on Hawthorne Lane, just south of downtown Flossmoor, was recently listed on the real estate market.
“My house is on the market,” Minga told the H-F Chronicle on Wednesday. “That being said, I am and continue to be a Flossmoor resident with my primary residence in town. At such time as I no longer live in Flossmoor I will give my resignation to the mayor and the community will be notified of the process for appointing a trustee to fill the vacancy.”
Minga said the move is planned to address family issues.
“Although I rarely discuss personal issues, I will tell you the last three years have been a very trying time for my family,” he said in an email. “We’ve experienced the sudden death of three family members and other challenges. This has made us reexamine our lives, and we are in the process of refocusing our energies and time on our family.”
Minga was first elected to the Flossmoor village board in 1997. He was elected for a sixth time two years ago and his current term runs until 2021.
When trustee vacancies occur, the village board asks for interested residents to apply for the post, Mayor Paul Braun said.
“We notify the community and ask people to submit resumes to the board,” Braun said.
Interested persons are interviewed and the board makes an appointment for the remainder of the unfilled term.
Braun said there is no question that Minga remains a Flossmoor resident while his house is on the market.
“That’s his primary residence,” he said. “He is still a resident. He is paying taxes on that property, paying water bills and that’s where he has his driver’s license address.”
Braun said there has not been an appointment following a board vacancy since 2009, when he was elected mayor while serving as a village trustee. James Wilder was appointed to the board at that time.
Minga has also been a volunteer member of the Flossmoor Fire Department for many years, rising to the position of captain. At the Jan. 22 meeting, fellow village board members honored Minga for 34 years of service on the fire department. He retired from the department last month.
