Park district installs new energy lights at racquet club

The Homewood-Flossmoor Park Board expects to save more than $20,000 in energy costs in 2019 by switching to LED lights.

At its Nov. 20 meeting, the board approved the $11,974 purchase of LED lights from Helsel Jepperson for the Racquet & Fitness Club, 2920 W. 183rd St in Homewood.

Staff will be switching bulbs throughout the club, except the tennis courts where the lighting fixtures were replaced about five years ago.

The club uses 2-by-2 or 4-foot light fixtures. This program has allowed the club to replace the 2-by-2 fixtures with new LED panels and upgrade the 4-foot fixtures with tubular LED lamps, said Eileen Rohrer, manager of the club.
