The police, fire and public works departments will be getting new trucks in Homewood after the board approved leases at its July 23 meeting.

Public works will replace its engineering division’s 2008 Ford Explorer and street division’s 2006 plow truck, also through a separate purchasing cooperative.

A 2020 Ford Explorer will be leased for $32,946 from Currie Motors and a 2020 International HV507 plow truck for $215,000 through the National Joint Powers Alliance from Rush Truck Center of Northern Illinois.

A pair of fire department command staff vehicles were scheduled for replacement in Homewood’s current budget. The village leased two fire department vehicles in 2014 for the first time in order to cut costs. That move allowed the department to plan to replace those vehicles every five years.

The board approved leases for 2020 Chevrolet Tahoes from Currie Motors of Frankfort through a bid from the Suburban Purchasing Cooperative. Each Tahoe will cost $36,462.45.

Radios in the current command staff vehicles will be transferred to the new vehicles and new emergency lighting kits will be installed. The lighting will be paid for by the departmental operating budget.
The leases for all four will be bundled through American Capital Financial Services Inc. of Lisle. That $320,870  agreement was approved by the board. The finance charge will be $19,384 over the five-year life of the lease financing program.

The board also approved the purchase of a new ambulance for the fire department. Chief Bob Grabowski said the current 2007 ambulance has frequent breakdowns and needs replacement.

The process for buying a new ambulance will take between six and nine months, according to village documents. The village will buy the ambulance from Foster Coach Sales of Sterling through the Northwest Suburban Purchasing Cooperative for $314,977, which includes $55,924 for the installation of necessary equipment.

The ambulance purchase will be reimbursed through bond sales to be issued next year.
The purchase of a 2020 Ford Utility Police Interceptor Hybrid was also approved. The car will be also be leased through Currie Motors for $33,806.

A public hearing for the proposed TIF district at the site of the former Bogart’s restaurant at 18225 Dixie Highway was scheduled for Tuesday before the regular board meeting. It was postponed.

The board’s next scheduled meeting is Aug. 13.
