A suspect was taken into custody about 3:15 p.m. Sunday after a nearly seven hour standoff with Flossmoor police and emergency response officers.

The incident began early Sunday morning, according to neighbors. Police were called to investigate a disturbance in the 2500 block of Caddy Street about 8:30 a.m., according to a news release from the Flossmoor Police Department.

When officers arrived, they were confronted by a man armed with a rifle. The man allegedly shouted threats at officers.

The man eventually went inside the residence and barricaded himself in, and family members were able to escape.

South Suburban Emergency Response Team responded to the scene, and negotiators worked until mid-afternoon to resolve the situation.

Flossmoor police said no one was injured in the incident, and criminal charges are pending.
