H-F steals game from Marist in close rematch

Homewood Flossmoor’s Vikings survived Marist 42-39 Tuesday, regardless of the Redhawks' late push in the fourth quarter.

Senior Issac Stanback was out for personal reasons, so sophomore Chad Readey started in his place.
Late in the fourth quarter, the Vikings had a couple miscues that lead to back to back threes for the Redhawks. That nearly cost the Vikings the win.
“Especially the last two or three minutes, when they see their season is about to be over, people tend to play a lot harder than they’ve ever played before,” Head Coach Marc Condotti said. “It wasn’t all us, we work on those things everyday in practice,”
H-F had a sizeable advantage in the front court as senior forward Maurion Scott racked up a double double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
“We knew that we could bully them down low in the paint and that we were going to have an advantage all game. I think we really exploited that and took advantage of it,” senior forward RJ Ogom said.
The Redhawks bested H-F last year in the sectional semifinals to knock them out of the playoffs with a score of 61-47.
“Last year it was tough on us because we worked real hard to get to that point. Coming back and beating them felt really good to do,” senior guard Oscar Parrish III said.
H-F will play St. Rita at TF North on Friday as they look to continue their state run.
