Parker principal resigns, replacement named

The Flossmoor School Board approved the resignation of Parker Junior High Principal Fred Hunter and named Amabel Crawford as his replacement Monday during a special board meeting, according to a District 161 press release.

Hunter’s resignation will go into effect June 30, and Crawford will take on the role beginning July 1, according to board documents. Crawford is the district’s current director of learning and instruction.

The board approved Hunter’s resignation one week after approving the resignation of Parker French and English teacher Ryan Sinwelski, who alleges that school administration did nothing in response to anti-gay harassment he received from students and a parent.

The press release does not mention whether the two resignations are related.

Hunter will have been Parker’s principal for two years, having replaced interim principal Vickie Person in July 2017.

Crawford, who has been in her position three years, will work alongside Parker administrators and teachers for the remainder of the school year, according to the press release.

Superintendent Dana Smith stated in the press release that he wishes Hunter the best moving forward.

“I have the greatest faith in Amabel as the next leader at PJHS, because of her high expectations, strong instructional knowledge, and proven track record of success,” he stated.
