Whodunit? The Drama Group does caper play

“The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940,” a whodunit caper, will be presented by The Drama Group in seven performances over two weekends in June. The show’s story line satirizes a few archetypes from the history of show business. It opens with a creative team responsible for a recent Broadway flop, in which three chorus girls were murdered by the mysterious “Stage Door Slasher.”

The team assembles for a backer’s audition of their new show at the Westchester estate of a wealthy “angel.” The house is replete with revolving bookcases, secret passageways and a German maid who is apparently four different people — all of which figure diabolically in the comic mayhem that follows when the infamous “slasher” makes his reappearance and strikes again.

Geoffrey Purvis of Homewood stars as Eddie McCuen, and Kate Purvis of Homewood is handling props and décor.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 7 and 8, and Thursday, Friday and Saturday, June 13, 14 and 15. The 2 p.m. performances are on Sundays, June 9 and 16. All shows are at the Drama Group’s Milord Studio, 330 W. 202nd St. in Chicago Heights.
Tickets are $23 for adults, $21 for seniors and $17 for students with ID. Group discount rates are available. Tickets can be purchased through the box office at 708-755-3444 or at the door.
The Drama Group is marking its 88th year, and its 20th year of the international exchange program with The Stables Theatre of Hastings, England.
