Supporters of Homewood District 153 are gearing up for the 10th annual Foundation 153 5K run/walk and 153-yard dash on Sunday, Sept. 22.

The fun starts at 9 a.m. with the kickoff of the 5K run/walk at the district’s administration office, 18205 Aberdeen St. At the completion of the run, the 153-yard dash starts.

Registration rates are $30 for adults in the 5K run/walk; $25 for the Youth 5K category open to those 17 and under; $10 for the Kids’ Dash for those 12 and under. A family rate of $95 includes two adults and an unlimited number of kids 17 and younger.

Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place winners in each category and an overall winner.

The foundation has added an online auction to the event. It will feature school-centric items and several ticketed items. Details on the Sept. 22 event are at foundation153.org.
The walk, run and dash events involve community members of all ages. Proceeds will enable the foundation to continue underwriting various programs at Willow, Churchill and James Hart schools that can not be funded through the District 153 budget.

Mike Dickover, president of Foundation 153, said with money raised through the event last year the foundation gave $10,000 to Willow School for STEM materials and underwrote scholarships for the district’s STEM summer camp at Hart School.

The foundation is working with staff at each building to learn what the needs are this school year.

Serving with Dickover on the Foundation 153 board are Melissa Jacobsen, vice president; Nick Fonner, treasurer; and Josh Berg, secretary. Dickover will welcome new foundation members. To learn how you can help, contact him at foundation153.org.
