The ‘run’ for everyone: Arts council brings back popular 0.3K fund run

On Saturday, Sept. 21, downtown Homewood will again be a slacker’s paradise when the Homewood Arts Council will convene its second annual “race” to raise money for the organization.

The Homewood 0.3K, “A Fund Run for the Rest of Us!” will give participants two hours, from 4 to 6 p.m., to make the two-block trek from the intersection of Martin Avenue and Hickory Road to the intersection of Martin Avenue and Ridge Road.

Greg Loudon, co-founder of HAC, said the event last year was so successful the organization decided to do it again.

“We had to do it again, had to.  It was so much fun, with a fantastic turnout and such great costumes,” Loudon said. “The overall feeling was such joy, such fun and the response from the participants was so enthusiastic.”

Like the inaugural event last year, there will be a costume contest and ample sustenance to fuel runners, walkers and lolligaggers for the 365-yard route.

Rabid Brewing will serve beer at the starting line. Krispy Kreme will serve doughnuts and coffee at the midway point. Copper Still will serve shots and White Castle will serve sliders at the end.

Music by TiMELeSS will provide the beat.

Last year, about 300 people participated in the event. This year, Loudon said organizers hope for 500.

Money raised from the event will go toward keeping the HAC’s art gallery open, and contributing to the Homewood-Flossmoor High School art scholarship fund and the work of developing a performing arts center in Homewood.

“We really want Homewood to become  an artistic destination,” Loudon said. “We’re still brand new, but we’ve accomplished a lot already and have so many other great events in the planning stages.”
