Coping with COVID-19: March 17

Homewood pitches in to help local restaurants survive the pandemic. The SBA offers disaster loans. Number of COVID-19 cases rises again in Illinois. Information hygiene.

  • Homewood Takeout Takeover was launched by the village marketing team on Monday. On Sunday, Gov. JB Pritzker issued an executive order prohibiting dine-in service until March 30. To survive until then, local restaurants are getting creative and the village is helping promote their efforts. Love your local restaurants? Help keep them going.

  • On Monday, Illinois Department of Public Health officials reported 12 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 105 cases in 15 counties. “Cases have occurred in all age ranges and the number of cases that do not have a clear connection to travel or a known COVID-19 case is increasing,” officials said in the announcement.
  • Information hygiene may be as important as physical hygiene. The Centers for Disease Control frequently asked questions page is a good place to get reliable information about the pandemic and how to respond to it.
  • The federal Small Business Administration is offering disaster loans to help small businesses stay afloat during the pandemic. 
  • On Sunday, March 15, Walmart stores began closing overnight, and will remain open from  6 a.m. to 11 p.m. until further notice, according to a statement on Walmart’s website. The new hours are intended to help staff restock shelves and to clean and sanitize stores.
