Demolition of the Triumph Building at the corner of Ridge Road and Martin Avenue has been moved to the spring.

The Homewood village board at its Nov. 10 meeting approved an amendment to the contract originally agreed to in March 2019. The buyer, HCF Homewood LLC, plans to demolish the building and construct a new one with a restaurant, hotel rooms, and apartments.

The amendment extends the inspection period and moves the closing date to Nov. 23, 2021. Demolition was pushed into the spring because banks are deferring loan commitments to developers in the hopes of an economic rebound.

The board also approved a parking variance for a proposed salon and spa at 18360 Governors Highway.

Verizon wants to expand its 5G capacity, which will require connecting their cell transmission equipment to a fiber optic network that runs along Ashland Avenue. The village owns the property parallel to Tienstra Court from Ashland Avenue to a Verizon tower behind the Municipal Services Center at 17755 Ashland Ave.

Verizon will pay the village $12,500 to install the fiber optic line on the property via a utility easement agreement.
