Cancer Support Center hosts Ungala on Oct. 30

The Cancer Support Center invites attendees to “dress down” for its Harvest Moon Ungala on Friday, Oct. 30.

Guests can attend in person, or set a virtual party with a meal from Balagio’s Ristorante.

The gala is one of four major fundraisers for the not-for-profit organization that offers its services free of charge, including counseling, yoga and nutrition classes and wigs for those going through cancer treatments.

“We’re doing things a little more casual this year,” said Sue Armato, director of the center. “No fancy dresses or classy tuxes — just you in your casual finest enjoying a night with us.

“It’s all to support The Cancer Support Center. Even through this entire pandemic, we have not missed a beat,” she stressed. “We have continued to be there for our participants and we have serviced more people now than ever before. We’re helping people navigate through the terrible burdens and hardships that cancer has put on them.”

The event at Olympia Fields Country Club opens at 6 p.m. with cocktails and dinner at 7 p.m. followed by line-dancing. Participants can enjoy the evening in an enclosed outdoor heated tent, or in the club’s Normandy Room. Registration is mandatory and can be made at www.cancersupportcenter.org. The set-up will be six persons or fewer at a table to meet social distancing guidelines. There is a $125 registration fee.

For those who want to experience the at-home party, a private Zoom link will get them into the party. There is a $75 per person charge that includes a meal from Balagio’s. The meal must be picked up at the restaurant at 17501 Dixie Highway in Homewood, or from Balagio’s Mokena location.
