Indiana man arrested for July shooting in Homewood

A 20-year-old man was arrested in his hometown of Indianapolis and extradited to Homewood on charges stemming from a shooting incident in July, according to a press release from Homewood Police Department.

Police said Dontae Clark is charged with attempted murder for an incident that took place on the evening of July 18 at Speedway gas station on the southwest corner of Halsted Street and Ridge Road.

They allege Clark shot a gun from inside a white vehicle, striking a man who was in the fueling area, before driving away from the scene.

The 52-year-old man, whose identity was not provided by police, was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the gunfire also damaged a vehicle parked across Halsted Street at Chevrolet of Homewood, 18033 Halsted St.

On Aug. 26, the Homewood Police Criminal Investigations Unit obtained a no-bond warrant for Clark on the Class X felony charge, the press release states.

Clark was taken into custody on Aug. 31 in Indianapolis where he lives, police said. After he waived his right to an extradition hearing, Clark was transported to Homewood on Sept. 3.

Formal charges were issued the following day, and Clark was transported to the Cook County Jail at 2600 S. California Ave., where he remains remanded without bond.

Clark’s next court date is Sept. 25 at the Cook County Circuit Court in Markham.
