Cook County in need of election judges

The Cook County Board of Elections is in need of election judges to work in the polls for the Tuesday, Nov. 3, election and for early voting polls.

All U.S. citizens who are registered to vote can serve as a judge. This year, state law has been changed to accommodate high school students 16 and older with a GPA of at least 3.0.

All judges are given training before Election Day. On Nov. 3, judges will arrive at the polling place at 5 a.m. to help set up the polling place so it can be ready for 6 a.m. voting. Polls close at 7 p.m. and judges need to work at the poll until the results are transmitted and the equipment has been put away.

Judges are paid $200 for their service on Election Day. For those willing to work at early voting polls, the rate is $150. Early voting starts Oct. 19.
