Homewood man avoids carjacking while suspects shoot at vehicle

A man in Homewood narrowly avoided harm on Tuesday evening when a group of men attempted to carjack his vehicle, shooting at it in the process, Homewood police said.

According to a press release from Homewood Police Department, the man was parked in his driveway in the 19100 block of Jonathan Lane around 6:45 p.m. on Feb. 2 when he was approached by three men.

The men demanded his vehicle, but he refused and attempted to drive away. As he did, two of the suspects fired at his vehicle.

The vehicle owner escaped the ordeal without injury, Homewood police said in the statement released Wednesday afternoon. The would-be carjackers fled the scene in an awaiting vehicle.

Police said the gunfire struck several vehicles and houses in the vicinity.
