The west side entrance to the pedestrian tunnel at the Homewood train station will be closed starting Thursday, April 1, according to Metra.

The closure is because of construction work as part of the station renovation project. Metra and Amtrak each have responsibility for sections of the project. Amtrak’s portion includes installing a ramp to improve accessibility from the west side of the tracks.

Starting at 4:50 a.m. Thursday, shuttle bus service will transport passengers from the Park Avenue parking lot on the west side to the entrance at the Homewood station. The shuttle pick up passengers in front of the temporary Amtrak trailer on Park Avenue.

Shuttle service will continue through the morning rush hour until 10:02 a.m. The service will not be available for the first inbound train, No. 100, which arrives Homewood station at 4:32 a.m. Passengers should seek alternate parking on the Harwood side of the tracks during the pedestrian tunnel access outage.

Those commuters who park in the lot on Park Avenue will have access to the shuttle bus service. Passengers should give themselves extra time in the morning when planning for their commute.

Amtrak personnel will be available to assist commuters.
