Homewood trustees return to in-person meetings May 11

Homewood trustees will return to the board room for the May 11 regular meeting after more than a year of mostly remote meetings.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the board room of village hall, 2020 Chestnut Road Capacity limits remain in place to allow for physical distancing, and masks are still required for all who attend.

For more than a year, most of the board and members of the public have attended via video conferencing, with several officials and a few members of the public attending in person.

The meeting agenda includes several changing-of-the-guard moments.

Recently elected board members, including Trustees Lauren Roman and Vivan Harris, Mayor Richard Hofeld and Village Clerk Marilyn Thomas, will be sworn in for new terms. Roman, Hofeld and Thomas are incumbents. Harris is new to the board.

The oath of office also will be administered to Nancy Adams as executive assistant in the village manager’s office, to Tyhani Hill as finance assistant, and to Jay Bush and Kyle Rhein as police officers.

The board also will consider approving resolutions honoring former trustee and police chief Larry Burnson for his service to the village and Sandy Ruhlander on her retirement after 20 years of service to the village.

In other business, the board will consider

  • Reappointing Fred Sierzega to the Planning and Zoning Commission.
  • Reappointing Trustee Barbara Dawkins as president pro tempore.
  • Amending the Southgate TIF District to ensure revenue can be collected through the final year of the district’s life in 2023.
  • Awarding a contract to Houseal Lavigne Associates to update the village zoning code.
  • A budget amendment for leasing police radios.
  • Waiving competitive bidding on a purchase agreement to purchase business management software.
  • A purchase agreement for facility management software.

After the public meeting, the board will convene in closed session to review past closed session minutes and to discuss the purchase or lease of real property.

During the meeting, members of the public may comment on agenda items or other subjects related to village business by email to [email protected] or by placing written comments in the drop box outside village hall. Comments received by 4 p.m. on May 11 will be read into the record of the meeting.
