Longtime trustee Perry Hoag resigns from Flossmoor board; Nelson to fill vacancy

On Friday, Aug. 27, longtime Flossmoor Trustee Perry Hoag submitted a letter of resignation from the Flossmoor Board of Trustees.

With Hoag’s resignation, Mayor Michelle Nelson is now accepting applications for individuals interested in filling the vacant trustee position.

In his resignation letter, Hoag stated, “It has been a pleasure to serve as an elected trustee for the Village of Flossmoor for the last 20-plus years. During that time, I feel that we accomplished a lot for the village. But for me, the most gratifying part of my work was getting to meet with and serve so many of our wonderful constituents. Flossmoor is in a better position today than it was when I first joined the board and is poised for continued growth and success.”

Nelson will accept resumes and letters of interest from potential candidates until 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 10. Interested residents can submit resumes and letters of interest to the attention of Nelson and marked “Trustee vacancy” either in-person at village hall, 2800 Flossmoor Road, or by email to [email protected].

Nelson will interview selected candidates and will then advance a candidate for board consideration. Illinois law calls for the vacancy of a trustee position to be filled by the mayor with the consent of the board of trustees. The appointed term will run until April 2023, when Hoag’s official four-year term is concluded.

While Nelson said she is sorry to see a longtime and valued colleague vacate the board, she is looking forward to seeing what applicants emerge for the potential appointment.

“We have benefitted from Trustee Hoag’s commitment, expertise and passion for more than 20 years, and we are so grateful for his service,” said Nelson. “Now, we have an opportunity to welcome a new voice to the board to share fresh thoughts and energy to the village and our community.”

Hoag’s resignation goes into effect immediately and the board vacancy will be filled following the application and interview process.
