Rain is expected to change to wet snow about mid-morning, and it will be followed about noon by a narrow band of heavy snow. Snow will become lighter during early evening hours, according to the alert.

Snow rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are expected within the heavy snow band. Accumulations could be 3 to 7 inches in the area and winds could gust to 30 miles per hour.

Travel in the heavy snow band may become difficult or nearly impossible, NWS officials said.

Officials also warned residents that the heavy snow could be difficult to shovel.
