Flossmoor fire causes extensive structural, property damage

Four members of a Flossmoor family lost their home Thursday when a fire swept through the residence, causing extensive damage.

Flossmoor Assistant Fire Chief Keith Damm said the home, in the 2800 block of Kathleen Lane, will be “unoccupiable for a while.” The family – two parents and two children – are now living in temporary housing provided by their insurance company. The children attend school in Flossmoor, Damm said, adding that he talked to the homeowner on Friday morning.

Braun asks Flossmoor village staff to examine possible budget cuts

As Flossmoor’s municipal budget process continues, Mayor Paul Braun has asked staff members to investigate how the village might trim its spending by 10 percent.

At Monday’s village board meeting, Braun directed Village Manager Bridget Wachtel to bring back a proposal on what a potential 10 percent reduction in the general fund – it could total about $900,000 – would look like.

County officer prevents man from apparent jump at Halsted tollway bridge

A Cook County Sheriff’s Police officer this week rescued a man who was apparently attempting to jump from the Halsted Street bridge above Interstate 80/294 on Homewood’s north end.
