Homewood Police Association accepting scholarship applications through June 15

Graduating high school students who live in Homewood are eligible for a $1,000 scholarship from the Homewood Police Association.

Boy, 12, hospitalized after Parker Junior High attack

A 12-year-old Parker Junior High School student is hospitalized following an attack on school grounds following Wednesday’s dismissal, according to a Flossmoor police report. The youth was walking past the row of parked buses at about 2:40 p.m. when he was jumped from behind by another student, the report states. 

Homewood Farmers Market welcomes patrons, vendors back for a new summer season

Patrons took advantage of a near-perfect spring day Saturday to flock to the opening session of Homewood Farmers Market's summer season. The first session of the new Hunt & Gather market was planned for Saturday but has been postponed to June 6 because of a wet weather forecast. The farmers market will be open, rain or shine.

Traffic was slow at the 183rd Street viaduct Thursday afternoon and is likely to be slow Friday morning, too, as Homewood Public Works crews implement a plan to combat nuisance birds.

H-F Foundation awards 14 scholarships

The Homewood-Flossmoor High School Foundation presented 14 scholarships at the May 20 honors convocation. The awards will help underwrite college expenses. The foundation manages and distributes the scholarship awards funded by families and friends or through special donations.

Most winners were chosen by a selection committee established by the Guidance Office. The award, the student recipient and the school they will attend follows:
