Homewood Fall Fest will inaugurate new downtown streetscape with music, food and family fun

Residents can mark the changing season at the Homewood's annual Fall Fest from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, on Martin Avenue from Hickory to Ridge Road. The 14th annual celebration features live music for all ages, the traditional Chili Cook-off to crown "Homewood's Top Chef," the second annual scarecrow decorating contest, enchanting horse-drawn wagon rides and an outdoor viewing of "Monster University."

Volunteers decorate downtown Homewood with ribbons to show support for police

Volunteers added a touch of blue to downtown Homewood Thursday and Friday. The blue ribbons are meant to show support for law enforcement officers at a time when there have been a number of officers killed in the line of duty.

Power outage hits downtown Homewood

Power was lost to downtown Homewood shortly after noon Saturday. 

Homewood Public Library officials announced the library will remain closed the rest of the day. The library is closed Sundays and will be closed Monday for Labor Day.

ComEd officials report about 372 customers are affected. Power is expected to be restored by 2:45 p.m.

Flossmoor board to consider request for video gambling in village

Flossmoor Village Board members Tuesday will consider whether to allow video gambling at local establishments with liquor licenses. The village currently prohibits video gambling, which has been legal in Illinois since 2009.
