Homewood resident Maxamillian Morales has accepted an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point after he graduates May 29 from Homewood-Flossmoor High School.

Morales, 17, son of Karen and Carlos Morales, was nominated for the appointment by U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly (D-Ill.).
“Max is representative of the remarkable talent and potential of our youth in America,” she said. “He will become part of a new generation of military leaders who we’ll entrust to take on the complex challenges of modern conflict. I know Max will prove to be an exceptional leader.”
Morales said a military career is something he gave much thought to, and he knows the academy is the “most prestigious” way to fulfill his dream. After he completes basic training this summer, Morales will enter the academy.
Morales will join other family members in military service. His mother served six years in the Air Force. An uncle serves in the Navy and a cousin serves with the Marines.
A graduate of James Hart School, the H-F senior is a member of the varsity hockey and lacrosse teams. He is a member of the Chess Club and Mu Alpha Theta, a national honors society for top math students.
“I’ve just always really liked math. At H-F I enjoyed physics and chem,” he said. At the academy he hopes to major in chemical engineering.
After earning a bachelor’s degree, Morales will have a 2nd lieutenant rank and will fulfill a six-year active duty commitment with the U.S. Army.
