The Village of Homewood was notified today that three of its paramedics have been exposed to the COVID-19 virus while responding to a call in Homewood. None has reported having symptoms of the virus.

Homewood Fire Chief Bob Grabowski notified the Region 7 Project Medical Director at Ingalls for South Cook County EMS. Per the medical director, the exposed employees have been sent home and placed under home self-quarantine.

They will be tested if they experience symptoms and will remain at home for the prescribed duration.

These events present an opportunity to remind residents and staff of the following guidelines as outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick with respiratory symptoms.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
  • If you have not already done so, discuss influenza vaccination with your health care provider to help protect you against seasonal influenza.

More information on preventing the spread of COVID-19 in our communities, can be found here.

As protocols and processes change, the village will keep residents up-to-date via its website and Facebook page.
