District 161 considers costs, benefits of abating tax levy

Flossmoor District 161 school board members continue to struggle with questions that will help them determine the next tax levy. Also at the Oct. 23 meeting, the board honored the Parker Junior High School cheerleading squad for its recent efforts at raising more than $500 in the Cancer Support Center’s Walk of Hope.

Flossmoor addresses water concerns following recent news stories

Flossmoor may be losing $846,000 worth of water a year, but it’s not news to village officials who have been working to correct the problem for several years. The village responded last week to news stories on water rates and losses in communities throughout the Chicago area, including Flossmoor.

Brian Colin was happy to be chased by monsters through the streets of Chicago this summer. The fictional scene is part of an upcoming movie based on the video game the Homewood resident designed for Bally/Midway in 1986. Gamers consider Rampage a classic.

Park district Halloween parties Tuesday

The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District is hosting Halloween parties for kids 13 and under on Tuesday, Oct. 31.
 
The program from 5:30 to 6 p.m. is specially designed as “quiet time” for children with disabilities and their families, including those on the autism spectrum or children with sensory processing disorder. Children will be able to enjoy the Halloween event without the distractions of loud noises, flashing lights and crowded areas.
 

Homewood gives beautification awards for outstanding appearance

The Village of Homewood and its Beautification Committee presented top honors to 10 homeowners for their outstanding efforts at gardening when officials presented the annual beautification awards on Oct. 17. 
 

Landscaping and tree work win honors for two Homewood Public Works employees

Two Homewood Public Works staffers, Bryon Doerr and Jim Tresouthick, recently were honored for their landscaping and forestry work in the village and the region.
