H-F Vikings Youth Hockey players bring home awards

Five ice hockey teams at the H-F Ice Arena brought home top prizes in tournaments. From the youngest to the more advanced, the teams beat competitors in games at Chicago, St. Louis and Madison, Wisconsin, in January. The teams are part of HF Vikings Youth Hockey Association, serving 126 players ages 5 through 13.

Flossmoor OKs oversized garage to accommodate pickup truck

Keith Janowski doesn’t beat around the bush when offering his opinion about Flossmoor’s restrictions on pickup truck parking restrictions. He's not impressed. Now Janowski plans to build a second garage that is big enough to accommodate his 2017 Chevrolet Colorado. Village board members unanimously approved the project at their Jan. 16 meeting.

Deadline Feb. 12 for 2nd Girls STEAM Ahead program

The Homewood Science Center is accepting applications from girls in seventh through 12th grades for its second Girls STEAM Ahead program on Feb. 24.
This free event will bring girls interested in careers in science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) the opportunity to meet with professional women and to show off their own inventions and creations. The registration deadline is Feb. 12. The online application is available at homewoodsciencecenter.org.

District 161 OKs home rule agreement with Homewood

Flossmoor School District 161 has signed on to a home rule intergovernmental agreement sought by the Village of Homewood with various local governmental boards.

The approval came in the passage of two resolutions concerning Homewood upcoming home rule referendum. The board voted during a special board meeting on Jan. 22.
