Low registration numbers lead to cancellation of FBBSB softball season

Flossmoor Baseball & Softball has canceled its girls softball season for the 2017 season.

Girls who want to play in an organized softball league this year are encouraged to register with Homewood Baseball and Softball, according to a statement issued Saturday by the Flossmoor league.

Five H-F seniors selected for Exelon internships

Homewood-Flossmoor High School seniors have been selected for the Exelon Generation internship program. H-F is the only high school participating in the program that typically focuses on incoming college sophomores.

District 161 staff, residents provide input in superintendent search

When creating a profile for the position of superintendent in Flossmoor School District 161, it takes a village -- or in this case, a cross section of the community.

Various activities this week provided the means for district residents, community leaders and employees to express their thoughts about the characteristics most needed as a new superintendent is hired.

H-F school board and community ready to meet principal candidate finalists

The final five candidates for the principal’s position at Homewood-Flossmoor High School will be on campus the week of Jan. 23.

The candidates will be welcomed to H-F by students, staff and community members. Each constituency group will spend time talking with the candidates to judge their strengths and areas for growth, said Jodi Bryant, director of human resources and public relations.

H-F band’s fundraiser OPA! Palooza is Saturday

Homewood-Flossmoor High School H-F Symphonic Band and H-F Viking Jazz Band present their fundraising extravaganza OPA! Palooza from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at the high school.

Students will be serving up Greek specialties in the South Building cafeteria. Friends and families are invited to sit and enjoy the evening’s delicious treats and hear student ensembles perform.

Flossmoor board OKs Buona Beef restaurant near Meijer

Despite requesting a last-minute change to slightly enlarge the building, developers of a Flossmoor Buona Beef restaurant Monday won unanimous approval from village board members.

The chain, which specializes in Italian beef and sausage sandwiches, plans to build a 3,920-square-foot restaurant on an outlot at the Meijer superstore.
