H-F students host food drive at home opener for boys basketball

Fans of Homewood-Flossmoor High School boys basketball are invited to donate food instead of paying admission for the first home game when the Vikings take on Thornridge High School at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2, in the South Gym.

Each spectator can bring two nonperishable food items, including baby food, canned beans, canned fruits, canned vegetables, cereal, pasta, peanut butter, jelly, rice, soup, tomato products and tuna.

Construction of New Star apartments likely to start early in 2017

Construction of an apartment complex in Flossmoor for developmentally disabled adults is expected to begin early next year.

Tim Knapp, executive director of New Star Services, said Monday he expects the Illinois Housing Development Authority will release funds for the apartments in early December.

Kids mark Brabec Day in District 153

When Tom Brabec stepped down in 2015 from the District 153 school board after having served for 18 years, his fellow board members declared each year a day of service in Homewood schools would be known as Tom Brabec Day.

The HF Chronicle was created in June 2014 as the Homewood Chronicle (but we soon realized Homewood and Flossmoor are so interconnected that it makes better sense to cover both villages).
