Bob Haderlein thanked for 12 years on H-F park board

The Homewood-Flossmoor Park Board honored outgoing board president Bob Haderlein for his 12 years of service. Newly elected board member Christina Farley Jackson took the oath of office for a six-year term at the May 16 board meeting and will fill Haderlein’s seat. 

Flossmoor seeks input from residents on planning, marketing surveys

Flossmoor residents have a chance to let local officials know what they think needs to be done, both in planning for the future and in marketing the village.

H-F on 'soft lockdown' briefly Thursday afternoon

Homewood-Flossmoor High School was placed on "soft lockdown" at 2:40 p.m. Thursday, May 18, according to an email to parents from Superintendent Von Mansfield.

The move was in response to police activity at CVS, a pharmacy store at the corner of Kedzie Avenue and Flossmoor Road, across Kedzie from the school.

Committee members eye restoration of Flossmoor’s downtown clock tower

Fans of “Back to the Future” remember a downtown clock tower that plays a notable role in the film. Flossmoor's clock tower is not nearly as famous, but it's about to receive some local attention as a group of area residents is moving ahead with plans to install functional timepieces at the tower.

H-F students examine international issues at Illinois forum

Major current issue being discussed internationally were in the spotlight April 27 when10 students from Homewood-Flossmoor High School joined with more than 100 students from high schools across the state for the Illinois Capitol Forum on America’s Future. This was the 15th year H-F has participated, said teacher Scott Aronson.

Homewood man shot at Naperville train station Tuesday

A 45-year-old Amtrak conductor from Homewood was shot by a passenger at the Naperville train station Tuesday afternoon, according to a news release from Naperville police.

Police said they received the report of a gunshot victim on the train platform at 4:45 p.m. The conductor, who had been shot once in the torso, was transported to Edward Hospital in Naperville and was conscious and alert.

H-F assistant principal Fantin resigns

The District 233 school board Tuesday accepted the resignation of Craig Fantin, one of two assistant principals at Homewood-Flossmoor High School. He will serve at H-F through June 30, and then move to his new position as principal at Peotone High School. 

Kim O’Lone recognized for 17 years of PTA volunteering

The Homewood District 153 Parent-Teacher Association selected Kim O’Lone recipient of the 2017 Volunteer of the Year Award.

Local police to participate in Cop on a Rooftop fundraiser May 19 for Special Olympics

On May 19 local police officers will take to the roof of a local doughnut shop to help raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics, a worldwide organization that helps people with intellectual disabilities participate in sporting events.
 

H-F Park District nominated for national honor

The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District has been selected a finalist for the 2017 National Gold Medal Awards for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management.
