Remember February 2018

In February, Homewood officially marked it's 125th anniversary as a village. In addition to a story by Jim Wright about the village's incorporation, Eric Crump's Page 2 column included a photo of the three living mayors — Richard Hofeld, Andrew Lindstrom and John Doody — speaking at a forum sponsored by the Homewood Historical Society.

We had more local election coverage with a story about the community's differing perspectives on the Homewood home rule referendum.

The cover feature by Marilyn Thomas focused on Homewood-Flossmoor High School's fencing program.

In other news, Flossmoor was beginning to study traffic problems in the downtown area. Marilyn's story on Lyric Ross, a student at James Hart School who won a part in the television show "This is Us," was our most-read story of the year.

February's weather often provides a good excuse to curl up with a book, and Tom Houlihan's column provided a roundup of his favorite recent reads.
