Remember April 2018

In April, Marilyn Thomas took us on a virtual roller coaster ride. Her cover feature described the Homewood Science Center's program that gives youngsters a chance to learn about physics and history with roller coaster-related activities. The program was timely. During Homewood's 125th anniversary year, it tied in with a Homewood resident, John Miller, an inventor who created a number of roller coaster innovations.

There was a news story about a disagreement between Homewood and Harvey over the cost of water. Harvey gets Lake Michigan water from Chicago and sells it to Homewood, Flossmoor and a number of other area communities. The conflict between Homewood and Harvey relating to ongoing problems with Harvey's water system and finances are expected to continue into 2019.

Carole Sharwarko contributed a story on the legacy of the late Ed McCormick Jr., longtime Flossmoor village attorney.

Tom Houlihan's column took a look at a shooting that seriously injured Amtrak conductor Michael Case of Homewood.
