Remember May 2018

Our cover feature by Carole Sharwarko took a look at how recycling has changed in the three decades since it became a common practice.

Top news stories included cartoons and pickup trucks.

David P. Funk covered Homewood's "Think Homewood" marketing campaign, which received national attention for its use of cartoon panels by local artist Marc Alan Fishman. Tom Houlihan's column also discussed the campaign, lauding the effort to get the word out to the greater metropolitan area about what a great community we have.

Tom also wrote about a petition by residents that persuaded Flossmoor officials to place a referendum on the November ballot to gauge whether the majority wanted to overturn the long-standing policy of requiring pickup trucks to be parked in garages.

Eric Crump's column marked the passing of long-time community leader Marvin Austin, who helped found Homewood Baseball in the early 1950s and served local youth sports, village government and the Homewood Fire Department for many years.
