Remember September 2018

Our cover story by Carrie Steinweg explored the work and ideas of Vegging Out, a local group founded by Mary Ellen Pinzino that supports vegan/vegetarian dining. The group works with local restaurants to help them increase their vegan offerings.

In business news, Carole Sharwarko reported that after six decades in Homewood, Dunnings Market was moving to the space on Sterling Avenue in Flossmoor left vacant by the closing of Bakewell Bakery.

Tom Houlihan reported on the completion of improvements to traffic flow in downtown Flossmoor to make the area safer for pedestrians.

On the occasion of Aretha Franklin's death, Tom's column revisited another great singer, Billie Holiday, who has a sculpture dedicated to her in the Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park at Governors State University, and mused about how art — musical and three-dimensional — brings people together.

About Us

A great community deserves a great newspaper. The HF Chronicle was created in June 2014 as an online publication. In December 2015 we began monthly print publication, too. Our mission is to chronicle the life of our community — news by, for, and about the people of Homewood and Flossmoor, Illinois.

Do you have something to say? If you want to inform the community about events, issues, recognitions, concerns, etc., write a letter.
