Remember November 2018

With Thanksgiving around the corner, our cover feature in November was an opportunity to show gratitude the wonderful neighbors in our community. Carole Sharwarko wrote and edited stories submitted by H-F residents about how their neighbors make their lives better.

Marilyn Thomas wrote about the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District's special honor as a Gold Medal Award winning park organization, a national recognition.

Marilyn also reported on the Homewood-Flossmoor District 233 board's decision to fund an addition and other building improvements to better support fine arts programs at the high school.

Carole Sharwarko reported on first-degree murder charges filed against Johnny V. Johnson of Chicago Heights in connection with the death of a Homewood teen, Romane D. Taylor Jr., in a shooting Sept. 1 on Loomis Avenue in Homewood.

Tom Houlihan's column described the nostalgic joy of dusting off an old Underwood manual typewriter. His column was written on the relic of a bygone era, and we included scanned images of those typewritten pages with the web version of the text.

Eric Crump's column paid tribute to Joe Krol, aka "Hobo Joe," who passed away in September. With help from Homewood Events Manager Allisa Opyd, the column recounted Kroll's key role in keeping railroad history alive through his service to the village Rail Committee and through his storytelling at the annual Hobo Night event.

About Us

A great community deserves a great newspaper. The HF Chronicle was created in June 2014 as an online publication. In December 2015 we began monthly print publication, too. Our mission is to chronicle the life of our community — news by, for, and about the people of Homewood and Flossmoor, Illinois.

Do you have something to say? If you want to inform the community about events, issues, recognitions, concerns, etc., write a letter.
