Early review of new Splash Pad: 'So much fun'

Within a minutes of the opening at noon on Saturday, the new Splash Pad at Millennium Park in Homewood was populated with more than a dozen frolicking children giving the facility a test run.

The early reviews were favorable.

"This is so much fun," Adalyn Morales shouted to her mother, Tracy Finfrock.

Finfrock said her older children had spent a lot of time playing in the old Splash Pad, which had outlasted its useable life and was down for repairs more frequently in recent years. Adalyn and her sister, Allison, were making their first visit, she said.

The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District awarded a $192,000 contract in December to replace the old water feature. Work began in April, but the completion of the project was delayed by a month.

"I like this one," Finfrock said, and noted that it appeared kids were really enjoying the new features.

Jessica Jursa agreed as she watched her five kids splash in the water. She thought the design was an improvement.

"The effects are nicer than the old one," she said. "It gives kids time to move from station to station."

The water feature at 18600 Harwood Ave. is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to noon, 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., weather permitting, according to the park district website. The Splash Pad is designed for children 10 years and under.

Park district residents can use the facility free of charge if they provide appropriate identification. See http://www.hfparks.com/millennium/ for more information.

Non-residents will be charged a fee of $5 per child, per session, cash only. Non-residents can buy a book of 10 passes at the discounted price of $45. Passes can be purchased at the Goldberg Center, 3301 Flossmoor Road in Flossmoor.
