White Sox recognize four high school players

The Chicago White Sox recognized four local baseball players in the Sox ACE Program at a special college signing day ceremony at Guranteed Rate Field on Nov. 14.

Parker Junior High moving on to baseball sectionals

Parker Junior High of Flossmoor walked away with the regional title in the Illinois Elementary School Association’s baseball tournament, defeating Homewood’s James Hart School 15-4 on Monday. Hart went into the game at Lions Field undefeated. In the semi-match Saturday it scored 14-4 against its opponent. Monday the tables were turned.

Hart, Parker to face off in playoff game Monday

It will be Flossmoor facing Homewood when Parker Junior High comes up against undefeated James Hart School. The baseball teams will each try to win a game Monday to advance to the Illinois Elementary School Association’s state championship. The game will be played at 4 p.m. at Lions Field, 1041 Ridge Road in Homewood. The winner gets the regional title and advances to sectional play on Sept. 22.

Sister Mary Jo Sobieck, a nun of the Dominican Order of Springfield, who was bestowed the honor of throwing out a ceremonial first pitch in celebration of Marian Catholic High School’s 60th anniversary threw a strike — and went viral on social media.

Major League Baseball scouts following H-F's Zaid Walker as draft nears

Zaid Walker, the right fielder on the Homewood-Flossmoor High School baseball team, is so good that Major League Baseball scouts are at games watching his performance. What’s in their notebooks is not just his fielding record, but his focus on the game and ability to swing. 

Local kids can compete at MLB Junior Home Run Derby

Flossmoor Baseball and Softball will host a free Major League Baseball Junior Home Run Derby for local youth at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, at Flossmoor Park, 2525 Flossmoor Road.
 
The competition, sponsored by Major League Baseball, is a way for talented youngsters to showcase their hitting talents, with the opportunity of competing at the national finals during MLB All-Star Week.
 

Registration open for Homewood and Flossmoor youth baseball and softball leagues

The first pitch of opening day is still a few months away, but youth baseball organizations and players are already gearing up for the season to start with registrations and winter workouts.

Homewood Baseball and Softball hosts 10 or more divisions of baseball, softball or T-ball play. The organization is holding two registration sessions in coming weeks at Willow School, 1804 Willow Road.

Registration nears for FBBSB hitting league, 2018 programs

Flossmoor Baseball and Softball (FBBSB) is introducing a baseball hitting league this fall. The program, which is being offered for the first time, will take place from Nov. 4 to Dec. 14 in the Homewood-Flossmoor High School Field House.
 
The weekly program will focus on situational hitting. Each two-hour session format will include 40 minutes of hitting and instruction, 40 minutes of competition and 40 minutes of performance training.
 

Hart baseball team advances to sectionals

The James Hart School baseball team won the right to compete in Illinois Elementary School Association sectional play after defeating Parker Junior High on Monday, Sept. 18.
