IJP Block Party provides Oktoberfest fun for families

The annual Infant Jesus of Prague Block Party returns Saturday, Oct. 6. The family fun at 1131 Douglas Ave. in Flossmoor will last from 5 to 9 p.m. 

Food trucks will be on hand, including Cheesies, Warm Belly Bakery, American Glory, Los Portales and Joey's Red Hots. Beer vendors will include 350 Brewery, Blue Island Beer Company and Flossmoor Station.

Giant Block Party on Aug. 18 celebrates Homewood’s 125th anniversary

Homewood's 13th annual Giant Block Party on Aug. 18 will help celebrate its neighborhoods in recognition of the village’s 125th anniversary. The event downtown from noon until 9 p.m. will be on Martin Avenue between Ridge and Hickory roads.

Flossmoor Community Church held it's first Community House Fest on Saturday, July 21, although the event was in keeping with a long tradition of arts-oriented events hosted in the Community House.

Homewood shines in televised WGN Block Party

As the sun rose in Homewood on Friday, the WGN Block Party Extravaganza was already gearing up. Young musicians in the Melody Mart Band were tuning up. The streets were lined with offerings from local businesses and organizations. 

And the WGN staff had the cameras ready to roll at 6 a.m. to open the four-hour WGN Morning News show from its remote location in downtown Homewood.

WGN brings block party to downtown Homewood on Friday

Homewood has acquired an additional event in its summer festival lineup. Television station WGN-Channel 9 in Chicago will sponsor a block party from 6 to 10 a.m. on Friday, July 13. 

Though early in the day, the pop-up event will include most of the features of other Homewood festivals: food, live music, vendors and activities for kids, according to village officials. WGN will add to the mix a parade and live broadcast.

Get ready for a fun time Saturday at the Infant Jesus of Prague Block Party! This year’s event opens with an outdoor mass on the parish grounds at 4 p.m. followed by fun and fellowship beginning at 5 p.m.
