Diverse. Stable. Respectful. Those are the characteristics of Homewood that attracted Canadian National Railway to the village and persuaded company officials to locate its U.S. training center here, according to John Orr, CN senior vice president of operations.

Homewood's train station could be seeing some fresh paint and repairs in coming months. Metra officials pledged Friday to develop a plan for fixing a number of problems with Metra's portion of the Homewood train station after Homewood officials expressed frustration with the condition of the facility.

CN to host open house to give community a glimpse of new training facility

Canadian National will host an open house from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 9, to give members of the community an opportunity to see its new training center at 17560 S. Ashland Ave. in Homewood.

Homewood Rail Fest May 16 taps into village history, appeals to railroad buffs of all ages

Homewood was born a railroad town, and it remains a railroad town. To celebrate its rich railroad history, the village will host its annual Rail Fest from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 16, in the H-F Park District Auditorium, 2010 Chestnut Road.
