Suburban Cook County residents have until Aug. 18 to apply for rental assistance from new $20M program

Cook County officials announced on Friday the launch of a $20 million rental assistance program to help suburban residents experiencing financial insecurity due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The program will be funded by the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act and will pay one to three months of overdue or future rent for income-eligible households. Payments will be made directly to landlords on behalf of tenants up to a total of $4,500.

Park district has kids decorate the 'Keep Healthy' signs

The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District is offering a fun way for kids to show their creativity on a very important message: Keep H-F Healthy.

The lawn signs will have the message imprinted, but how best to present them is up to the artist, whatever the age. The message is meant to encourage Homewood and Flossmoor residents to stay healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic so that students in Homewood District 153 and Flossmoor District 161 will be able to stay in school.

Gov. Pritzker announces new mask compliance rules

The Illinois Department of Public Health has filed emergency rules for businesses, schools and child care centers that mandate face coverings and the size of gatherings and will impose penalties for those not complying.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker said through Senate Bill 471 the new regulations he signed into law Friday, Aug. 7, are meant to help protect workers who continue to serve on the frontlines of the fight against COVID-19. The measure took effect immediately. 

Flossmoor trustees to discuss possible infrastructure bond referendum

The Flossmoor Board of Trustees will discuss the possibility of placing a bond referendum on the November ballot to raise money for infrastructure projects, including street repair and stormwater drainage.

Village staff members have presented several options for the board to consider, depending on how those projects are prioritized.

When there’s no right answer, you make the best choice.

That’s what was asked of school board members in Homewood and Flossmoor in deciding how to start school this month.

In Homewood District 153 and Flossmoor District 161, students will be divided into two groups returning to school two days a week on alternate days: Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday. The three days they’re not in school, they will be remote learning.
