District 153 adopts new science curriculum programs

The District 153 school board agreed to update its science curriculum for all grades using two programs that teachers have piloted this school year.
 
The board voted Monday, May 14, to spend $98,770 for contracts with four companies for Mystery Science curriculum and support materials kindergarten through fifth grade, and Stem Scopes for sixth, seventh and eighth grades and the purchase of technology devices for the upper grades. 
 

H-F adds six courses to 2018-19 curriculum

The District 233 school board approved six new courses for the coming school year.
 

Board member John Farrell said the changes and additions “reflect the ongoing effort to meet the needs of all the kids” at Homewood-Flossmoor High School. 

At the Dec. 19 board meeting, Nancy Spaniak, director of curriculum, instruction and professional development, outlined the changes for board members.

District 161 surveying parents on Mandarin program

Mandarin, the world's most-spoken language, is coming to Flossmoor School District 161. Parker Junior High students take advantage of H-F's Chinese language class next year.

Mandarin Chinese added to H-F High School curriculum

Students at Homewood-Flossmoor High School will have an opportunity to learn Mandarin Chinese next year.

The school board agreed at its Nov. 18 meeting to add the new language to its curriculum, and to establish a new culinary course in it Family and Consumer Science curriculum.
