Practical visionary: Homewood Science Center director sees collaboration as key to the project

When the Homewood Science Center board of directors started looking for an executive director, they were looking for someone who shared their vision and could gather the financial resources to make the vision a reality. They chose Edie Dobrez of Flossmoor to lead the way.

First phase of Homewood science center development finished, trustees vote to start next phase

Homewood trustees voted 5 to 1 on Tuesday, July 28, to keep the community science center project moving forward. The first phase, a conceptual plan, was presented to the board by project leader Rachael Jones and two members of the local advisory board, Betsy Soehren-Jones and Irv Anderson.

Homewood officials took two steps Tuesday toward the development of a community science center, envisioned as a kind of mini-Museum of Science and Industry, agreeing to hire a consultant and purchase property for the project.

Homewood trustees directed Village Manager Jim Marino to prepare a contract with Global Studios, a group affiliated with the Exploratorium in San Fransisco, to conduct the first phase of the project.
