New communications manager will oversee marketing in District 161, village of Flossmoor

Flossmoor School District 161 and the Village of Flossmoor have named a communications manager who will oversee marketing efforts and public information at both governmental units.

The second annual District 161 Back to School Meet and Greet on Friday evening marked the end of summer vacation with a family event and outdoor movie.

District 161 moves toward hiring private security at Parker

Flossmoor District 161 took a step Monday toward hiring a private firm to provide security at Parker Junior High School this fall. The board held a public hearing on the subject and also recognized Parker Junior High School students who were selected to participate in an internship sponsored by the Homewood Science Center and Izaak Walton Nature Preserve.

Parker students, staffers have heads shaved at St. Baldrick’s event

“Shavees” and their supporters raised close to $7,500 at Parker Junior High School’s first-ever St. Baldrick’s event on April 21.
 
Money raised at the event will help find cures for childhood cancer. A total of 10 people – five Parker students, three school staffers and two community members – made pledges and had their heads shaved in solidarity with children who lose their hair while being treated for cancer.

Deep in the throes of flu season, Flossmoor School District 161 staff members remain vigilant, equipped with information and whole lot of antibacterial cleaner.

District 161 board approves 2.1 percent tax levy increase

Months of detailed discussions about the 2017 tax levy came to an end when Flossmoor District 161 school board members conducted a public hearing on the levy and voted to approve it.
 
Action was taken at the Nov.27 board of education meeting.
 
The levy includes a 2.1 increase based on the cost of living as determined by the Consumer Price Index.  The average homeowner’s increase will be $60 per year.
 

District 161 survey seeks input on new strategic plan

As Flossmoor School District 161 continues work on a five-year strategic plan, parents and other residents are being asked to weigh in on areas of concern in the local schools.
