Pedestrian hit by car near Vollmer-Dixie intersection

A Matteson man escaped serious injury this week after he was struck by a car while crossing Vollmer Road just east of Dixie Highway on the border between Flossmoor and Chicago Heights.

Testing to update Flossmoor’s police eligibility list scheduled this summer

Flossmoor is getting ready to test applicants to the village’s police department. The department needs to update its eligibility list for prospective officers every two years, Police Chief Michael Pulec said. The current list expires in September.

Five arrested following early morning car burglaries in Flossmoor

Flossmoor police Friday arrested three juveniles and two adults following a string of early morning car burglaries. Charges are pending following the arrest of the suspects at Leavitt Park about 4 a.m.

Two arrested after high-speed chase down Governors Highway

A high-speed chase down Governors Highway though Flossmoor and Homewood earlier this month ended with the arrest of two juveniles, who are facing charges of fleeing and eluding police – a felony -- and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

The driver of the car is 15 – a Flossmoor police report described him as being slight and about 5 feet tall. His passenger is 16. Both youths are from Harvey.

No injuries after car rolls over, hits trees

A 25-year-old Hazel Crest man was uninjured Thursday morning after his car went off the road, rolled over and struck some trees.

Burglary charges follow theft from IJP collection box

A Flossmoor man is facing felony burglary charges for allegedly stealing money from a donation box at Infant Jesus of Prague Catholic Church last month.

John M. Becker, 21, of the 1200 block of Oakmont Avenue, was charged with burglary to a house of worship, according to a Flossmoor police report.

Becker told police he used a screwdriver to break into the donation box and took $11 from the donation box so that he could buy cigarettes, the report states.

Matteson man faces reckless homicide charges in fatal Flossmoor car crash

A Matteson man has been charged with two counts of reckless homicide following a February crash that took the lives of a passenger in his car and the driver of another vehicle.

Victim’s description, police ID led to Flossmoor robbery arrests

Four suspects are in custody following Thursday’s armed robbery in Flossmoor and a 40-mile chase ending in north suburban Park Ridge.

A day later, as law enforcement agencies sorted out the details of the incident and looked ahead to possible criminal charges, it was increasingly clear that the arrests were never a sure thing.

A number of factors fell into place, said Tod Kamleiter, Flossmoor’s deputy police chief.

Flossmoor robbery ends 40 miles away with arrest of four suspects

Four persons were arrested Thursday following a 40-mile chase that began following a robbery in Flossmoor.

Flossmoor police said the four suspects were apprehended in north suburban Park Ridge after exiting the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) at Dempster Avenue. They were arrested near Lutheran General Hospital.

Flossmoor crime rate decreases as 2015 thefts go down

Flossmoor’s crime rate in 2015 declined for the third straight year. Police Chief Michael Pulec said Thursday that the overall number of so-called Part 1 crimes – which include murder, criminal sexual assault, robbery, aggravated battery, burglary, theft, auto theft and arson — dropped from 123 in 2014 to 106 in 2015.
