Engineering projects go on display at Saturday’s STEM Fest

Budding engineers in Flossmoor School District 161 will put their ideas and skills on display in the first-ever STEM Fest. About 20 students from across the district are taking part in the event, scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon April 30 at Parker Junior High School in Flossmoor.

New bus contract lowers District 161 transportation costs by $330,000 a year

District 161 to pay H-F teacher so three students can take advanced math class

Three Parker Junior High School students – a sixth grader and two eighth graders – will be taking junior-level honors math courses at Homewood-Flossmoor High School in the coming academic year.

Flossmoor School District 161 Board of Education members Monday approved $11,414 to cover the cost of one H-F math teacher for one class so that the three students can take algebra II and trigonometry at the high school.

The results of the first PARCC exam taken by Homewood and Flossmoor students show good results, but administrators say they will continue to use their current testing methods for more accurate assessments of classroom success.
