Rep. Kelly works to bring needs of African American mothers to the forefront

Rep. Robin Kelly, D-Ill., is putting the needs of African American women in the spotlight through the work of the Congressional Caucus on Black Women and Girls.
 
Kelly, who represents Homewood and Flossmoor in Congress, founded the caucus with two other representatives. Kelly said the caucus was necessary to give voice to the 23.5 million black women and girls who should be considered a priority in policy debates.  
 

Innovation, service win Flossmoor nurse special honors

Flossmoor resident Tiffany Victor-Castleberry will receive the Young Healthcare Executive Award on Feb. 12 from the Chicago Health Executive Forum (CHEF) of the American College of Health Executives.
 
She will be one of 10 honorees at the 43rd CHEF Annual Meeting at Soldier Field.

Ingalls, UChicago Medicine mark first year of outreach in South Suburbs

On Oct. 1, Ingalls Memorial Hospital and University of Chicago Medicine will celebrate the first year of a partnership that has expanded services and medical staff expertise for residents of the South Suburbs.

Cancer Support Center hosts first ‘Survivor Camp’ on Sept. 16

The Cancer Support Center is hosting its first Survivor Camp on Saturday, Sept. 16, designed to give information and tools for cancer survivors.
 
The free event is open to anyone who has battled or is currently battling cancer. Caregivers are welcome to join and take part in the sessions as well. 
 

Cancer Support Center sets Fall Walk of Hope for Oct. 1

“Be a Super Hero” is the theme for the Oct. 1 Cancer Support Center’s Fall Walk of Hope. The annual fundraiser supports the center’s programs and resources, which are provided at no charge to anyone living with a cancer diagnosis, as well as to their loved ones. The goal this year is $100,000.

Advocate South Suburban Hospital to host a Farmer’s Market on June 14

Advocate South Suburban Hospital is hosting two summer farmer’s markets this year. The first will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, in the hospital’s main parking lot at 17800 S. Kedzie Ave. in Hazel Crest. 

Advocate is partnering with Cristina Foods, a wholesale food service distributor, to supply fresh produce and other items for the event.

Franciscan St. James breaks ground for pavilion, expanded ER

Franciscan St. James Health broke ground in May on a new patient pavilion and emergency department expansion at its Olympia Fields campus. 

The new construction, which will be completed in 2018, is part of a $137 million investment that will enable Franciscan St. James to reduce the total cost of care, enhance operational efficiency, improve quality and improve performance across its system of care.

The groundbreaking took place May 31. 

Outpatient spine surgery now available at Ingalls Same Day Surgery

Ingalls Same Day Surgery in Tinley Park has announced it now offers two spine procedures — microdiscectomy and laminectomy — as an outpatient service. 

The first procedures were performed in December following the recent addition of renowned spine surgeons Anthony Rinella, M.D., and Kris Siemionow, M.D., to the Ingalls Same Day Surgery medical staff, according to a news release from Ingalls.

Patients can now have spine surgery, recover and go home on the very same day.
