Two H-F students win honors at state’s mock trial contest

Two Homewood-Flossmoor High School students won top honors as part of the Illinois State Bar Association’s High School Mock Trial Competition in March.

H-F cafeteria workers win salary increase

Food service workers at Homewood-Flossmoor High School ratified a new contract with their employer, Chartwells, in March.
 
According to Nick Desideri of Service Employee International Union Local 1, the 25 union members working at H-F overwhelming approved the contract.
 
He did not provide specific dollar amounts, but did say the three-year union contract guarantees a wage increase, health care protections and better benefits.

Sportsmanship Team Award goes to H-F Vikings hockey team

The Homewood-Flossmoor High School hockey team will receive the Team Award for sportsmanship at the Illinois High School Hockey League banquet on Saturday, March 30.

H-F Unified Basketball winners of state championship for third time

For the third year in a row, the boys Unified Basketball team has brought the state championship trophy to Homewood-Flossmoor High School.
 
The team defeated Andrew High School 60-57 in a game Saturday, March 16, in Peoria.

H-F teacher selected 2019 Golden Apple Award winner

Uproarious cheers from students in Classroom A-19 could be heard down the hall of South Building at Homewood-Flossmoor High School Tuesday afternoon when Catherine Ross-Cook learned she is one of 10 teachers in Illinois receiving the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Bids for H-F High arts addition come in high

The District 233 Finance Committee got unwelcome news Wednesday when Ed Wright of DLA Architects told them bids for work on the proposed Performing Arts Center came in more than $4 million over what is budgeted.
 
The school district has a plan to build new spaces at Homewood-Flossmoor High School for performing arts, band and orchestra and to redesign current spaces for fine arts. The board has budgeted $10 million for the project.
 

H-F’s Group Interpretation team presents 30-minute drama Thursday

A special presentation of “From Dreams to Drama: Remembering Lorraine” will be performed by the Homewood-Flossmoor High School Group Interpretation team at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 14, in the Mall Auditorium.
 
Group interpretation is a competitive 30-minute drama performance. This play tells the story of Lorraine Hansberry and her efforts writing the play “A Raisin in the Sun.” 

Stanback, Ogom lead H-F to OT win over Bloom

Homewood-Flossmoor senior forward Issac Stanback helped will the Vikings to a win in an overtime thriller against Bloom 64-61. H-F advances to the second game of the state basketball tournament's sectional round.  

H-F steals game from Marist in close rematch

Homewood Flossmoor’s Vikings survived Marist 42-39 Tuesday, regardless of the Redhawks' late push in the fourth quarter.
