H-F students, staff enriched the Holiday Angels Program for the needy

The Holiday Angels Program run through Flossmoor Community Church got a big boost this year from students and staff at Homewood-Flossmoor High School.

Students collected specific items on the wish lists of 20 needy families selected by local school social workers. The church, acting anonymously, serves as the clearinghouse for distribution of the food, clothing and toys to those families.

Annie Reilly, a junior at Homewood-Flossmoor High School, wants to be a teacher who will give her students a love of music.

Member of 1994 championship team helps Homewood honor 2014 Vikings football team

Adam Lewandowski knows what it takes to win in football. He was a member of the 1994 state champion Homewood-Flossmoor High School  football team, so Village President Richard Hofeld thought it would be fitting for Lewandowski to present the proclamation honoring the 2014 Vikings.

Homewood-Flossmoor HS students selected Illinois State Scholars

The Illinois Student Assistance Commission has selected 73 Homewood-Flossmoor juniors for State Scholar honors.

The State Scholar Program recognizes these students for their outstanding academic achievements, including ranking in the top 10 percent of the class and scoring in the 95th percentile on the ACT exam.

State scholar designation provides honorary recognition with no monetary award.

Love of the violin brings Anya Brumfield to center stage Sunday in Chicago

H-F’s Success with AP courses draws visitors from Hawaii

Homewood-Flossmoor High School recently welcomed educators from Hawaii’s Mililani High School in Oahu and Farrington High School in Honolulu during a special visit to the Chicago area.

H-F was one of five high schools the educators visited the week of Nov. 17 for a look at how some of the top schools are using advanced placement and gifted programs.

Viking pride brings out community supporters for state championship game

The community came together to cheer on the Homewood-Flossmoor High School football team as they battled for the Class 8A championship title Saturday night at the University of Illinois’ Memorial Stadium.

Alumni from multiple generations wore red and showed their Viking pride at parties hosted at Homewood and Flossmoor businesses.
