H-F High’s Nakamura named National Merit semifinalist

Homewood-Flossmoor High School senior Kensuke “Ken” Nakamura of Homewood has been named a semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program. He is in the International Baccalaureate Program at H-F and is a member of the Viking Symphonic Band, H-F Viking Jazz Band and Viking Choir. He also is a member of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra’s Jazz Orchestra.

Gerald Pauling will fill H-F school board seat

Gerald Pauling was selected to fill a vacant seat on the District 233 School Board. He will be sworn in at the Oct. 16 board meeting.

Two D233 board members say flawed process delayed start of fine arts project

Members of the District 233 school board will be asked to cast a vote at the Oct. 16 meeting that will allocate funds for a build out and remodeling project for the fine arts program at Homewood-Flossmoor High School.

The proposal is to create a fine arts wing on the north end of the South Building for students in performing arts, choral, band, orchestra and fine arts by building two additions and remodeling other spaces.
 

H-F theater students present ‘Akeelah & the Bee’ Sept. 27, 28, 29

Homewood-Flossmoor High School’s theater program will present “Akeelah & the Bee” at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 27 and 28, and at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, at the school’s Mall Auditorium, 999 Kedzie Ave. in Flossmoor. 
 

District 233 takes first step in strategic planning

Foster communication. Recognize student potential and student achievement. Support staff development. Support the array of extracurricular activities. Address the social/emotional needs of students. School finances should reflect Homewood-Flossmoor High School values.
 

H-F homecoming victory is a blowout

Homewood-Flossmoor High School students, alumni and community supporters had plenty to cheer about on Friday, Sept. 7, as the Vikings football team won the homecoming game 46-0.

It was the third victory in the young season for the Vikings. The team welcomed Stagg High School for the first of only four seasonal games to be played at H-F. 
 

District 233 school board will consider approval for H-F Fine Arts Center

The District 233 school board is expected to review a proposed Fine Arts Center plan at its meeting Monday, Sept. 17.
 
The board’s Finance Committee reviewed plans on Thursday, Sept. 6, presented by Edward Wright of DLA Architects and agreed to send the proposal to the full board. The committee set a $10 million cap for the project that would develop an arts wing serving the performing arts, band, orchestra, choral and fine arts programs.
 

H-F school board schedules two meetings for Thursday

Two school board meetings are set for Thursday, Sept. 6, at Homewood-Flossmoor High School.
 
The Finance Committee will meet at 5 p.m. in the conference room in South Building.  Discussion will focus on how to handle Property Tax Appeal Board filings, residency investigations and the fine arts expansion project.
