H-F theater students present ‘Akeelah & the Bee’ Sept. 27, 28, 29

Homewood-Flossmoor High School’s theater program will present “Akeelah & the Bee” at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 27 and 28, and at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, at the school’s Mall Auditorium, 999 Kedzie Ave. in Flossmoor. 
 

District 233 takes first step in strategic planning

Foster communication. Recognize student potential and student achievement. Support staff development. Support the array of extracurricular activities. Address the social/emotional needs of students. School finances should reflect Homewood-Flossmoor High School values.
 

H-F homecoming victory is a blowout

Homewood-Flossmoor High School students, alumni and community supporters had plenty to cheer about on Friday, Sept. 7, as the Vikings football team won the homecoming game 46-0.

It was the third victory in the young season for the Vikings. The team welcomed Stagg High School for the first of only four seasonal games to be played at H-F. 
 

District 233 school board will consider approval for H-F Fine Arts Center

The District 233 school board is expected to review a proposed Fine Arts Center plan at its meeting Monday, Sept. 17.
 
The board’s Finance Committee reviewed plans on Thursday, Sept. 6, presented by Edward Wright of DLA Architects and agreed to send the proposal to the full board. The committee set a $10 million cap for the project that would develop an arts wing serving the performing arts, band, orchestra, choral and fine arts programs.
 

H-F school board schedules two meetings for Thursday

Two school board meetings are set for Thursday, Sept. 6, at Homewood-Flossmoor High School.
 
The Finance Committee will meet at 5 p.m. in the conference room in South Building.  Discussion will focus on how to handle Property Tax Appeal Board filings, residency investigations and the fine arts expansion project. 
 

College Board names 155 H-F High students for AP honors recognition

Homewood-Flossmoor High School has announced that 155 students have earned AP Scholar awards for their exceptional achievement on Advanced Placement exams.
 
The scores are for work completed during the 2017-2018 school year when H-F offered 25 AP courses recognized for their quick pace and academic rigor. Students are given the support they need from these classes by teachers and parents, Superintendent Von Mansfield explained.
 

H-F grad Karen Hawkins receives national LGBTQ journalism award

Karen Hawkins got an incredible birthday surprise this year when her feminist publication Rebellious Magazine won the NLGJA Jeanne Córdova Award from the Association of LGBTQ journalists.

New phone system approved for H-F High

The District 233 school board approved a contract with Rival5 for a new phone system for Homewood-Flossmoor High School. 
 

Wenckus resignation leaves vacancy on H-F High school board

The seven-member District 233 school board has a vacancy following the Aug. 24 resignation of board member Tim Wenckus who stepped down due to new work obligations. 

H-F student meets with dignitaries in science

Branden Anderson, a sophomore at Homewood-Flossmoor High School, participated in the Congress of Future Science and Technology Leaders in Lowell, Massachusetts, this summer. Over the two-day meeting June 29 and 30, Branden met students from across the country who came together to listen to outstanding scientists who spoke on their cutting-edge advances in science and technology
