Legislature working on reimbursements for South Suburban Family Shelter

Homewood-based South Suburban Family Shelter (SSFS), an agency assisting domestic violence victims, may soon get reimbursements owed by the State of Illinois.
 
The Illinois House of Representatives approved legislation that would pay SSFS for services it has provided to clients over the past year. Co-sponsors of the legislation are Reps. Will Davis (D-Homewood), Al Riley (D-Hazel Crest) and Anthony DeLuca (D-Chicago Heights).
 

Three changes to property tax exemptions approved by the Illinois legislature

A bill that would increase Homeowner Exemption and Senior Citizen and Senior Freeze Exemption tax relief measures is nearing the finish line to get Gov. Bruce Rauner’s signature.
 
The measure, SB473, started in the Illinois Senate with co-sponsor Sen. Toi Hutchinson (D-Olympia Fields). It passed 54-0 on May 4 and was sent to the Illinois House. 
 

Paid sick time bill advances to Illinois Senate

Legislation proposed by Illinois Sen. Toi Hutchinson, D-Chicago Heights, would provide for all workers in Illinois to have paid sick leave.
