Krispy Kreme makes Homewood a doughnut destination

For the moment, Homewood appears to be the doughnut capital of the Chicago metropolitan area.

In addition to Pearson's Bakery and two Dunkin' Donuts shops, the first Krispy Kreme shop in the Chicago area opened at 6 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 17815 Halsted St. after a seven-year absence from the area. Doughnut lovers have been flocking to town since.

Retailers looking to up their crowds on Black Friday may want to take notes on how Homewood’s Krispy Kreme store executed its Tuesday opening.

Lines started forming Monday night at the store, located at 17815 S. Halsted St., and continued throughout its opening day.

Homewood backs property tax reduction for new Krispy Kreme site

By a 5 to 1 vote, Homewood trustees approved a resolution Tuesday, June 28, in support of Class 8 property tax relief for the site where Krispy Kreme will be building a doughnut shop this summer.

The business landscape in Homewood will have several new features in coming months, including martinis, more doughnuts, a new source of fresh produce and painting parties.

At the annual economic development breakfast hosted by the village Thursday, Homewood Mayor Richard Hofeld provided an overview of new businesses that are hoping to open soon.
